What you need to know about the music industry . . .
Today, there is an abundance of affordable music software allowing novice and experienced songwriters alike to create, edit, record
and produce their own music. However, the music industry is highly competitive and protecting your music rights is paramount. Take the time to visit the Office of Copyrights and learn about copyright laws and the application process. We will gladly assist
completing and filing copyright applications, but we highly recommend retaining an experienced copyright lawyer if you have a large
body of musical works.
Writing and creating music is one thing, but getting paid for it is an entirely different process. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) are excellent resources for learning
about managing music royalties, but don’t stop there. There are plenty of legal issues and concerns every songwriter needs to
know, and plenty of online resources to assist the novice and experienced songwriters through the musical maze.
